Understanding the OXS (Open Cross Stitch) Format and CSTX
MyCozyApp currently supports charts in .oxs, .cstx and .xsd, but we continue to work on adding other formats. We encourage pattern designers to adapt their designs for MyCozyApp, so their customers can stitch faster and enjoy the process more.
If you're a cross-stitch pattern designer interested in exporting your existing patterns to .oxs or creating new
ones in this format, and need assistance with exporting your formats, please don’t hesitate to reach out! Email us at mycozy.app@gmail.com, and we’ll gladly help you.

OXS is a new file format designed by Ursa software for use with any cross-stitch software. Cross-stitch software for home computers has been around for over 30 years. During that time, various programs for creating patterns have come and gone, and undoubtedly, new software will continue to emerge.
Historically, each software manufacturer developed their own unique file format tailored to their specific needs, resulting in many different file extensions, such as .CHART, .XSW, .PAT, .WXS, .SCC, .CHT, .MOTIF, and more. All of these formats are incompatible with one another.
Because these file formats were proprietary, one program couldn't read designs created by another, like each software product speaking its own language without an interpreter.
As a result, designs made with programs like EasyCross or Myriacross—two examples of companies no longer in business—cannot be opened or used in any modern software still available today.
Think for a moment: what would happen to all your designs if the program you currently use suddenly stopped being supported or shut down? All your work would be lost, and you’d have to start from scratch—an unfortunate and frustrating reality for those who have invested their time in these programs.
With the OXS format, a designer working in several different programs can open their project in all their applications. At the same time, they can sell the final file only in the secure CSTX format, which can only be opened by MyCozyApp.
The Open Cross Stitch (OXS) file format aims to break down these barriers, allowing any software package to create a file that can be understood by any other. This way, designers can be assured that their work will remain accessible, no matter which software they choose.
By sharing this information, we want to encourage pattern designers to create their charts in the .oxs format. It ensures a more secure future for your work and brings greater satisfaction to your clients!
It is our own secure format for the MyCozyApp application.
If a designer does not wish to distribute their projects in the OXS format but is interested in selling files for MyCozyApp, they can use this page on our website to export OXS files to our application's CSTX format.
